The New 2009 Hybrid Escalade Is Cool
The Cadillac Escalade Hybrid is the only SUV vehicle in its class that offers a way to get green without sacrificing quality and luxury. The Hybrid seats eight. The Cadillac Escalade Hybrid is the only full size SUV with a 2 mode hybrid powertrain on the market. The two mode hyrbrid powertrain in the Escalade Hybrid allows fifty percent better fuel economy than other conventional vehicles in city driving. It also allows at least a forty percent increase in fuel economy overall.
The 2 mode hybrid powertrain integrates the brand’s Vortec 6.0 Liter V8 engine with Cadillac’s new Automatic EVT transmission. The Electronic Variable Transmission has 2 electric engines and 4 driving gears.The V-8 engine in the Hybrid has the brand’s Active Fuel Management System, allowing four-cylinders to shut off in light load conditions and ultimately conserving fuel.At stops and when idling the gas engine shuts off and restarts when needed, at the same time the electric motors propel the engine to work in the 4cylinder mode more often.
With light throttle, the electric motors can propel the New Cadillac Escalade up to 30 mph, but together the electric motor and gasoline engine produce 332 hp and 367lb.ft. of torque.The electric motors, electric steering system, and the electric air conditioning compresser are all powered by a 300 volt battery pack located under the second row seats. Regenerative braking will charge the batteries. Two or four wheel drive options are available for the Hybrid.The hybrid powertrain is only available on a standard length Escalade.
As far as towing capability, the new Cadillac Escalade will be rated to tow up to 6000 pounds with rear wheel drive and 5700 pounds with all wheel drive.Interior wise, the Hybrid has a hybrid drive system showcased on an 8in. touch screen. This drive system lets the driver know which mode the SUV is running in. There is a handy economy gauge in the Hybrid that lets the driver know which ‘zone’ to drive in to amplify mpg. The tachometer in the 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid includes an Auto Stop reading that indicates when the gasoline engine is shut off.
